Pao's Story![]()
Section:
World CinemaDirected by: Quang Hai Ngo Chuye cuan Pao Vietnam, 2006 Dir.: Quang Hai Ngo ![]() Trailer Set in a breath-taking primitive landscape in the mountainous provinces of Vietnam, the film tells the story of a Hmong tribe girl named Pao. She was raised by her stepmother, for her real mother left her when she was little. One day, her stepmother dies in an accident, and she begins to track down her birth mother. But her journey turns out to disclose an unsealed sentimental drama of the family in the past. “Pao’s Story is a contemplative coming-of-age tale set among the Hmong people, an ethnic minority indigenous to the mountains of North Vietnam, told through the eyes of Pao, (played by the beautiful Do Thi Hai Yen, star of The Quiet American). A universal story about letting go of resentments based on childhood memories, as multiple revelations alter her perception of the past. The magnificent mountain ranges of Northwest Vietnam, engulfed year-round in an immense veil of fog, provide a rich cinematic setting for this vivid and moving film.” (Ronnie Sheib)
