Julien newly released on parole from 13 years in prison returns to his hometown. He is obsessed with a young woman, Emily; he follows her around, tracks her. He decides to approach her, he states only, „It’s me”, which she replies with a scream. Dark secrets come to bear on the two as their story slowly unfolds. De Lestrade is renowned for his documentaries dealing in crime and punishment, such as The Staircase, which chronicled a notorious Michael Peterson murder trial, and the Oscar-winning Murder on a Sunday Morning, about a 15 year old black boy wrongfully accused of murder. Now he turns his camera to narrative filmmaking for the first time, but remains entrenched in the subject matter he knows best.

Q&A with Jean-Xavier de Lestrade, director of Welcome Home: March 30th, Monday, Uránia National Film Theatre, 20.15, after the screening!
