Wim Wenders and the legendary choreographer
Pina Bausch are collaborating on the first dance feature film to be shot in 3D. Wenders has been keen to work with Bausch for some time but before the development of 3D was unable to find the right medium. He said that 3D will help to “take the audience directly on to the stage.
He added: “The two-dimensional cinema screen is just not capable of capturing Pina Bausch’s work, either emotionally or aesthetically. When I watched her dance for the first time 25 years ago, I was captivated and deeply moved. I was able to understand human movement, gestures and feelings in a whole new way. And this magic is what I would like to translate to the screen.”
Pina will be produced by Wenders’ Neue Road Movies with Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch. It will feature three of Bausch’s dances: Café Müller, which was first performed in 1978, The Rite Of Spring from 1975 and Full Moon from 2006. It will go into production in September.
