An apparent evidence to the colourfulness of Titanic’s Music for All section is the fact that the documentary about White Stripes fits just as much into it as the dance film composed to the tunes of Jean-Philippe Héritier’ soundtrack. Today we are presenting to you the Swiss composer of
Souldance, Jean-Philippe Héritier.
The collaboration between Héritier and Yvette Bozsik dates back a long time ago. We could hear the composer’s surprising, witty, and ardent pieces in some of the Bozsik Yvette Company’s performances such as Les Noces, Dance Therapy, Fiery Angel, Ball or the Rejoicing Dance, Turandot Public Bath or Miss Julie. Héritier, at present living in Paris, also gave his music to other Bozsik-productions: the autobiographical Girl in the Garden, or the self-reflexive-self-ironic Director’s Cut.
The process of composing the soundtrack to Souldance wasn’t at all based on a regular working method, as Héritier did not attend any of the rehearsals: he is alleged to have worked exclusively from e-mails and videos. Despite all this, the musical material was included in the performance in its totality, making up a perfect harmony with the dancers’ movements.
