Solidarity with Jafar Panahi

In January 2011, internationally acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi was sentenced to 6 years in prison and banned from directing and producing films for 20 years. He was convicted of being involved in activities colluding against the regime. The sentence triggered international reproof and several human rights organizations and film boards protested against it. Now the Hungarian audience can also demonstrate their sympathy for Panahi at a special screening organized by CirkoFilm – Másképp Foundation.

Berlin International Film Festival announced 11th February to be the day of solidarity with Jafar Panahi. CirkoFilm – Másképp Foundation, releasing four films of Panahi in recent years not only because of their aesthetic values but also because of their commitment to the problems of the oppressed in Iranian society, joins the initiative and is organizing a special screening in support of the convicted filmmaker to be held at 8 p.m., 11th  February at Urania National Film Theatre.
 
The film to be screened is The Circle which the audience also could have seen some years ago at Titanic Film Festival. The screening will be preceded by a short lecture on Iranian culture and society.

The programme is free, the film is to be screened with simultaneous English translation.
